Major National Park In India (2019)

As of July 2018, India has 104 National Park which covers an area of 40,501 square kilometers. First national park in India was established in 1936 in Uttarakhand, now known as Jim Corbett National park.

Hemis National Park is the largest national park in India situated in Jammu and Kashmir and covers an area of 4400 square kilometers. Similarly, South Button Island National park is the smallest national park in India, located in Andaman and Nicobar Islands having an area of 0.03 square kilometer.

Jim Corbett National Park

Jim Corbett National park is also known as Hailey National park. It is the oldest national in India. Jim Corbett is located in Nainital district of Uttarakhand State.

Corbett National park has an area of 1318 square kilometer in which 520 square kilometers is a core area and remaining is buffer area. The temperature of Jim Corbett national park varies from 5-degree Celsius to 30-degree Celsius. there are 488 different species of plants have been recorded in the park. 33 species of reptiles, 7 species of fish, 36 species of dragonflies and seven species of amphibians are also recorded. some species which are recorded in the park are:

Kanha National Park is also called as Kanha Tiger Reserve. It is located and the largest national park of Madhya Pradesh state. It covers an area of 940 square kilometers in two districts, Mandla and Balaghat.

Kanha National Park was created in 1955. It has more than 1000 species of flowering plants and park had a large population of Bengal Tigers, Indian leopards, Barasingha, Indian wild dog and sloth bear. It is the first national park in India which introduces, "bhoorsingh the Barasingha". some major species in Kanha national park. some major species in Kanha National park:

Sundarban National Park

The Sundarban National Park is located in the West Bengal state. It has an area of 513 square miles. It is a part of the Sundarbans on the Ganga Delta and it is also adjacent to the Sundarbans Reserve forest in Bangladesh.

The Temperature ranges from 20-degree Celsius to 48-degree Celsius respectively in the park. It has a heavy Rainfall with 80 % humidity. Sundarban National park is known for Sundari tree which is a special kind of Mangrove tree. it has more than 400 Bengal tigers that's why it is one of the largest reservoirs of Bengal tigers. It also has fishing cats, Leopards cats, Wild boar, Fox, Jungle cat. Some aquatic animals are also found in a park-like, Sawfish, Electric rays, silver carp.

Kaziranga National park

Kaziranga National park is located in the Gologhat and Nagaon districts of the state of Assam, India. It covers an area of 430 square kilometers. It is recognized as a World Heritage site. It has 2-3rd of the World's great one-horned Rhinoceroses. In Kaziranga National park, there are 2413 rhinos.

Kaziranga National park also the highest tiger density in the World. The park also has a large number of elephants, wild water buffalo, deer. The national park is also identified for the Important Bird Area. some birds are a lesser white-fronted goose, Asian openbill stork. Two of the largest snakes of the world, rock python and reticulated python are found in Kaziranga national park.

Bandhavgarh National Park



In 1968, Bandhavgarh National park was declared a national park. it has an area of 105 square kilometers. it is located in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh State.

The park has a large population of leopards. The first white tiger was found in this region by Maharaja Martand Singh of Rewa in 1951. It is known for one of the highly dense populations of the tiger. The Bandhavgarh National park has 37 species of Mammals, 250 species of birds and 80 species of Butterflies. 

Ranthambore National Park



Ranthambore National Park has an area of 392 square kilometers which is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan. Ranthambore National park was first established as a Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary then it became a national park in 1980.

Ranthambore National Park is known for the Bengal tigers. some other species which are found in Ranthambore national park. Indian leopard, Nilgai, Wild boar, sambar, chital, crocodile, and rhesus macaque. The Banas river and Chambal River have the boundary with Ranthambore National park.

Periyar National Park



Periyar National park is known for its elephant reserve and a tiger reserve. Periyar National park is located in the districts of Idukki, Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta in the Kerala State of India. It has an area of 925 square kilometers. It forms the major watershed of two rivers of Kerala, the Periyar and the Pamba river.

There are 35 species of mammals,266 species of birds, 45 species of reptiles, 30 of snakes, 13 of lizards are recorded in the Periyar National Park. The Average temperature in Periyar National Park ranges from 15-degree Celsius to 31- degree Celsius.

Gir National Park



Gir National Park is also known as Sasan Gir which is located
near Talala Gir in the Gujarat State of India. Gir National park is known for Asiatic lions. It is the only park left in entire Asia, where Asiatic lions are found. Asiatic lions have a population of 523 in the Gir National park.

Gir national park has an area of 1412 square kilometer. there are more than 400 plant species are recorded in the Gir forest and also there are 2375 distinct species present in the Gir forest. there are 38 species of mammals,300 species of birds, 37 species of reptiles.

Nagarhole National park



Nagarhole National park also is known as Rajiv Gandhi National park. It is one of the premier Tiger Reserves of India, located in Kodagu district and Mysore district in the Karnataka state of India. it has an area of 642 square kilometers.

Some major tree species present here are Golden shower tree, Clumping bamboo and flame of the forest. Some Important predators and carnivores in National park are Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, Sloth bear, and the Striped hyena. Nagarhole national park is a very good place to see elephants, it has more than 6500 elephants.

Bandipur National Park

Bandipur National park has an area of 874 square kilometers located in the State of Karnataka. it has an area of 874 square kilometers. If we take Nagarhole national park along with Bandipur National park then Karnataka is the state which has a maximum number of tiger population in India.

Bandipur has a different type of trees like, Teak, sandalwood, Indian-laurel, giant clumping bamboo. It also has a good population of Indian Elephants, Tigers, Sloth bears, muggers.
